Oh me, oh my. Who has the best Saturday nights I hear you cry? Yeah, yours truly. Listening to Live It Up by JLo and Pitbull (oh the sheer joy!) and writing a cover letter about how fantastic I think I am.

mobiledays asked: Hi :) I think i have been following you for a while now. ANd i must say, I love some of your design work :) But i have a question. I just failed my first Uni assignment, and well. really the first piece of work from my schooling life ever, and it sucked! Did you ever fail anything? And if you did, how did you cope with it?
Hey dude, thanks a million. Yeah man, sometimes things suck big time. I’ve had my fare share of horrible marks. Never failed anything other than year 10 Geography, but my Nana got 0 in her Geography test when she was in school, so that made me feel closer to her which was awesome. It’s clearly genetic. But you just have to remember that a grade or number or letter does not define how good you are or what you can be. I get average marks all the time but then there’s people like you, other designers, other tutors who like the work I do. If we’re talking graphic design or design in general here it’s all so subjective and personal. Anyone can interpret any way they will. I have a crazy strong work ethic and I try not to hand in anything late or without any feedback which is how I generally cope with it all. Just got to keep at it, that’s the process, not everyone who did great things achieved great marks or was highly praised. I also like to think that the ones in my course who get the best marks, are put on a pedestal are the ones who’ll crash later on. That’s how I like to view it haha. Just do your shit, do what you love and take on feedback/grow but make sure you’re still sticking to your guns. I receive some negative feedback from studio work/my magazine/the way I design/how I design, which is great, but sometimes I just think “Fuck it, when you design a full magazine, are fulltime uni and have a part time job, come chat about how shit I am”. Stick to your design instinct.
Keep at it and remember you’ll fail, it’s the only way to get better.
